With Sen. Harris Blake, there is no need to consider the other candidate running for the Moore-Harnett County seat in the N.C. Senate.

Blake has labored in a minority capacity for the past nearly eight years. Finally, the light bulb has been lit, and folks are starting to understand the importance of fiscal and societal conservatism.

When Blake wins the general election in November, after winning the primary, he will vigorously pursue the same goals he laid out before his first election: lower taxes; improve the climate for businesses to relocate to North Carolina; improve the conditions necessary for schools to thrive and educate the youth of our state; continue with his pledge to use lottery money in a more purposeful manner — if not eliminate it altogether, since it is a regressive tax; and, finally, trim government to reduce the need for more revenue and put the economy back into the hands of nongovernmental entities to facilitate recovery.

Blake’s adversary in the May primary has a track record of poor associations in his previous experience in state government. Sen. Black, Mecklenburg County, and previous majority leader of the N.C. Senate, is in jail. Sen. Rand, Cumberland County, resigned as majority leader recently to take a job in the North Carolina penal system. Sen. Basnight, Dare County, should be worried that he will come under scrutiny for unethical behavior while in public office.

Waste no time thinking about your choice for our Senate candidate. Blake has an unimpeachable character and unassailable ethical behavior.
